Humorous Stories - The Swimmer

Delores P. Fishbottoms got the scare of her life on All Hallow's Eve.  Delores decided to take a swim as the weather was unseasonably warm for this pre-November day. Half way into the surf, she sighted what appeared to be a skeleton trying to scare the living daylights out of her.  Bystanders reported that Delores appeared so frightened that her legs froze and she was unable to tread water and return to the beach.

When the group of bystanders noticed her predicament, they were planning a quick rescue but were halted by the lifeguard in charge of the beach area.

"She's not in danger, trust me," he assured the small crowd.  "Billy's been trying to learn how to swim for two decades now.  Why, he returns to this very beach every year at this time. It's a well-kept secret of the town, you see."

When Delores finally mustard enough nerve to remove herself from the water, she wasn't a happy camper.  She told Tickle Feather, "Some idiot was standing in the deep, tossing out obscene hand gestures at me!"

When she began to make a retreat, we asked if she were going to contact the authorities.  She replied, "No!  I'm going for my bikini."
